Healthy Weekend: Morning Yoga

Marshall doing yoga in the gym

The Saturday morning sun, pale and apologetic for the upcoming winter storm, filtered through the dusty skylight of Marshall's gym. He is usually bouncing off the walls ready to do his yoga; but this morning, shuffled in, eyes half-closed and sneakers squeaking from the snow outside.

He unrolled his yoga mat and gingerly lowered himself onto it. He has been teaching himself yoga which has overall made him feel better; in daily life and during his weightlifting. Today, he flowed with Tree Pose, Warrior Two, Pigeon Pose and twists. Today wasn't the most stable of days but he kept moving through his flow. He remembered what a yogi friend say to him, "Remember, it's not about being perfect, it's about the journey." Slowly, the clumsiness melted away, replaced by a sense of calm, of being present in his own body.

He knew he was perfect today but he found a sliver of peace in the midst of the urban chaos, a tiny oasis in the concrete jungle. And as he walked out of the gym, head held a little higher, he realized that maybe, just maybe, yoga wasn't so bad after all. Maybe it was even a little bit fun.

And who knows, maybe next Saturday, he'd even attempt Crow Pose.

This is a fictional story inspired by where you can wear this men's style.
